My sister is getting Married!

MY Sister is getting married! Paige and joe asked if i’d take engagement photos for them and i was of course absolutely delighted and the gears in my head immediately started to spin. It was the day after thanksgiving and the whole family was coming out to Galnea, IlLinois to our parents vacation home (Jared and I’s current/temporary home) to spend time together. Jared and I have an annual tradition of picking a tree at a Christmas tree farm and we wanted the whole family to join us this year, which gave me an Idea. The assignment was pretty simple: frolic through the rows of pine, spruce, and fir trees with their dog, Maple. The vibe kept giving 90's Ralph Lauren catalog and I was SO there for it. And the scent of the evergreens... seriously intoxicating, and honestly in conditions like that, it's hard not to get carried away in the holiday spirit.

Maple, as always, was definitely the star. Her excitement was uncontainable (per usual) and at one point, she got a little too caught up in the moment, and we found ourselves on a hilarious chase though the trees as she tried to make her escape! But i’m in love with the chaos. Watching her zoom around was so joyful, and I couldn’t help but think how much I love capturing these moments between people and their dogs. THe Movements feel authentic and the connection is so genuine, which to me feels timeless and always inspiring.

After we finally settled on a perfect tree and strapped it to the roof of the car to bring back to the house, we headed downtown for a "quick" drink at the Blaum Bros Distillery Tap Room. I mean, nothing warms you up quite like an absolutely filthy martini after a cold afternoon outside! The atmosphere was so cozy, and we ended up hanging out and and laughing together longer than we intended, which felt like the only correct way to kick off the holiday season together.

It’s amazing how these seemingly simple moments, running through a tree farm, enjoying a drink with friends and family, or even watching a dog in an all out haphazard sprint though a forest of Christmas trees, that become my favorite memories. Sometimes, it’s not about the perfect shot, but the connections you make or a photo that throws you back into the memory of a little adventure together. I can’t wait to see these two this summer on their biggest adventure yet, getting freaking married!
